Hawth's
Analysis Tools for ESRI's ArcGIS (v3.x) Installation Instructions If you are concerned you may not have the most recent version, please visit http://www.spatialecology.com/htools to download it (free, no registration). There are different versions of HawthsTools for ArcGIS 8.x and ArcGIS 9.x. You MUST have the version of HawthsTools that is written for your version of ArcGIS. The HawthsTools2 series is for ArcGIS8.x, and the HawthsTools3 series is for ArcGIS9.x. Both versions are available for download on the website above. To install this software, you must have the installation files in the same folder. They are:
To begin the installation run "htools_setup.exe" by double-clicking on it in Windows Explorer, and follow the instructions provided. It is recommended that you allow the setup program to install Hawth's Tools in the default location. You will receive a notification if the installation was successful. To use Hawth's Tools after the installation, open ArcMap and display the Hawth's Tools toolbar as you would for any other extension (e.g. if you right-click on the toolbar area at the top of ArcMap, you should see Hawth's Tools listed among all the other extensions). If you receive an error message during installation, or do not see Hawth's Tools in the list of extensions, please refer to the FAQ's below.
Frequently Asked Questions The
installation program failed (an error occurred). What went wrong? You must also have ArcGIS installed before installing this extension. If the installation program fails, there is another method you can use of activating the extension. First, copy the folder containing the setup files to a safe place on your computer (where none of the directories will be renamed or moved); I recommend the c:\arcgis folder or wherever you installed ArcGIS. Then, in ArcMap, go to Tools, Customize, and click the "Add from file..." button. Navigate to the HawthsTools2.dll file and press the Open button. After a few seconds a confirmation will appear listing all the components of HawthsTools that have been installed, and you may begin using it. Note that this method is not the preferred method of installation because it will be harder for you to install updates to HawthsTools in the future, and it does not provide you with a way of uninstalling Hawth's Tools. How do I
know if I have the most recent version? I already
have Hawths Tools installed, but want to install a newer version. How do I
do this?
